Curbing confusion

Confusion curbed

Not trying to reinvent the wheel, but rather focus on building a lineup of fins that are easily understood through clear communication. Direction for what fins go in what surfboard.

When I shape surfboards for people, I make sure to direct them to the right template of fins that are going to work best in that board. Fins can get confusing as there is so much out there and no clear direction on what fin goes with what surfboard. Most people out there aren't getting custom boards and don't always have someone taking the time to guide them into what fin template will make the board surf the best. But I do know fins can be the difference between a board being loved or getting thrown on facebook marketplace.

Margin of error

Even more so, with choosing a pair of twin fins for a surfboard, there is less margin of error when compared to thrusters. Only relying on two fins, I've found you can't just throw your favorite pair of fins in every board. It varies so much between shape, bottom contours, etc. With thruster surfboards, the shape is fairly common among different surfboards. Of course, there are outliers, but I'm speaking in commonalities. Because of this, you can typically throw in your favorite thruster from board to board and the recipe will probably work. This isn't the case for twin fins.

I find the most common issue for people and twins is that they get confused about which pair goes with which board. Or they look at all pairs of twin fins the same. Or they classify twins in two types. Keel and Uprights. This is far from accurate and leads to a lot of surfboards that ride poorly. Typically buying the twins that are most highly advertised, rather than understanding what fins go to what surfboard. It isn't an exact formula. But I want to get people as close as I can to what they need so that they're not stuck buying multiple sets of fins for a single surfboard. And also not stuck on feeling like they wasted their money on a plug of a board, when in reality it just needed a different set of fins.

Easy there

We started Dyads because we wanted to be able to build a lineup of fins that we could get everything we needed from one place. Not much to overthink, just trying to make choosing the right fins for a surfboard easier.
